Cathedral Italic

In my advanced typography class, I undertook the challenge of reviving an early 19th-century German font, Nero Kurliv, and reimagining it as a modern typeface. Using Adobe Illustrator, I recreated the font from scratch, refining its design for better cohesion across all characters. Since the original font lacked a complete set of letters, I crafted new ones to align with the historical style while maintaining a consistent and polished aesthetic. The result, Cathedral Italic, blends the rich, ornate qualities of the original with thoughtful updates, creating a timeless typeface that honors its origins while feeling fresh and usable in contemporary design.
